Culture Clash, Humanities Struggle to Understand Each Other

The Whitman National Park is one of those parks that really exists because of the significant relationship between the Presbyterian Preacher Dr. Marcus Whitman, his  wife Prentiss Whitman and the Cayuse Nation.

Combinations of language, culture and medical misunderstandings led to the Wests’ first massacre and the full force of military retribution along the Oregon Trail.

This video gives the short version of what happened. In the region there were two missions. One focused on the Cayuse Nation and the other with the Nez Perce Nation.

These images are from Whitman National Park and the regional park marking French Town.
