I admire this tree. When young it has spikes to make it less appealing to nibbling deer and rodents (think beaver). It reminds me of an old tortoise. If a tree can look wise, this one does. Especially in the winter. Although it grows well here in the Inland Pacific Northwest, it is considered an invasive species. Because of its heavy foliage, including prolific seed pods. Most people like to remove these. There is always Black Locust available. This one has a turned edge, giving the fingers a little more surface to play with.
